Blue Pond in Biei-cho, Hokkaido, popular among tourists for its mysterious scenery, is illuminated at night and attracts many visitors.
Blue Pond in Biei-cho, located at the foot of Tokachi-dake Mountain, is a popular tourist spot where the lake surface looks blue due to aluminum, a component of volcanoes.
For the past eight years, the town has been lighting up the pond at night from November to April in an effort to create a new winter attraction.
Earlier this month, the surface of the blue lake froze due to severe cold weather.
It was then covered with snow, and now the entire surface is covered in white.
At sunset, LED lights illuminated the snow-covered pond in blue.
Various patterns, such as polka dots, were projected on the pond, and visitors enjoyed viewing and photographing the fantastic scenery.
A parent and child visiting from Ishikawa Prefecture said, “The gradual color change was beautiful.
A woman in her 50s visiting from Tokyo said, “The serenity, the colors, everything was very impressive. It was so beautiful that I didn’t feel the cold.”
The Blue Pond will be illuminated until April 30 next year.
